MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTORS

Message from Assistant Dean and Director Gregory J. Hutchings

What differentiates our dual-degree program? First and foremost, the excellence of our partner schools. Both Olin and SMU have world-class reputations for their management education. You also benefit from Washington University’s ongoing relationship – and broad academic partnership – with the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C. The collaboration provides insights on U.S. business and government not available in other programs.

Simply stated, our goals are to accelerate your career with a financial toolkit that enhances your marketability with employers, inside and outside the financial services industry. Students gain cutting-edge knowledge, models, and methods. Many of our graduates take the Chartered Financial Analyst exam; the rigor of our curriculum helps prepare them for success.

In addition to graduating with a degree from Olin and a

degree from SMU, you acquire two professional networks, domestic and international. The value of these connections cannot be overestimated.

Take the next step and apply to our program. We look forward to sharing information with you.

Message from Associate Dean and Director Dr. Benedict KOH

The last few years have witnessed significant changes in financial markets and increased volatility in returns on risky assets. This new environment presents itself both as a challenge as well as opportunity to skilled financial professionals. Increasingly, the finance and banking industry is looking for finance professionals who can thrive in a world of uncertainty, risk and constant changes. Such finance professionals must possess relevant financial knowhow as well as experience.

The Global Master of Finance – Dual Degree program (GMF) – is specifically designed to equip students with cutting-edge knowledge and skills in applied finance. Our curriculum is carefully designed to strike a good balance between theory and practice.

Upon completion of the program, students would have acquired a firm foundation in economic and financial theories as well as state-of-the-art quantitative financial skills. The curriculum also offers practical training in finance so as to familiarise students with the current financial market practices through frequent industry visits, talks, networking activities and immersion programs.

A special feature of the GMF program is that the curriculum is structured to meet the requirements of the internationally-recognised Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) examinations. Hence, our students will not only graduate with dual Master degrees from SMU and Washington University but also be well-prepared and qualified to take the CFA examinations.

The program is taught by a team of distinguished faculty with many obtaining their PhDs from world-renowned business schools and experienced professionals from the finance and banking industry.

I am confident that the GMF program will provide you with the skills and knowledge required in the fund management, banking and stock broking industries.

Come and join us to experience the rewarding and intellectually stimulating learning environment we provide at SMU.
