Executive MBA Alumni Association Charter

The EMBA Alumni Association (Alumni Association) was formed to support the relationship between the Olin Business School's Alumni Association Executive Council, its Executive Programs Office, and its alumni. The Association will support the executive degree programs by:
  • Recruiting students for the various executive degree programs.
  • Enhancing the visibility of the programs locally, nationally, and internationally.
  • Sponsoring continuing education programs.
  • Providing an organized forum for fellow alumni, business associates, and contacts to interact.
  • Engaging in other projects as requested by or developed through the Executive Programs Office, including but not limited to advice on curriculum issues, new non-degree programs, and other educational opportunities.
  • Encouraging ongoing financial support to Olin from Executive Degree alumni.

MEMBERSHIP
Membership in this Association is accorded to all graduates of Washington University Olin Business School executive degree programs.
REPRESENTATION
Section 1 (Number and Representation)

The Board will be comprised of an average of two representatives from each EMBA class and:

  • The Asst. Deans of Executive Programs.
  • The Director of Admissions and Student Services for Executive Programs.
  • An ex-officio member from the Dean's Office.
  • An ex-officio member from the Alumni & Development Office.
Section 2 (Selection of Board Members)

The Executive Committee, made up of standing committee chairpersons, Board officers, and immediate past president will meet in the spring to decide on the following year's membership. Each graduating class will elect Board members as follows:

  • EMBA August graduating class will elect two Board members by May 1 to attend the summer Board meeting.
  • EMBA January graduating class will elect two Board members by August 1 to attend the fall Board meeting.
Section 3 (Terms of Office)

General membership on the alumni Board shall last two academic years. New August EMBA members will begin their terms at the summer Board meeting. The new January EMBA class members will begin their terms at the fall Board meeting.

Section 4 (Vacancies)

Whenever a vacancy shall occur, the Board's Executive Committee will meet to decide who shall be asked to fill the term of the representative class member.

Section 5 (Powers and Duties)

The Board shall manage the Alumni Association and adopt policies to guide its activities. The Board shall exercise all of the powers of the Association except those specifically reserved for its members. Each Board member has the responsibility to attend Board meetings and serve on a standing committee. In addition, each Board member is expected to be represented (either in person or by a classmate he or she recruits) at the fall Annual Fund Phonathon.

Section 6 (Voting Requirements)

A majority of the Board shall constitute a quorum in matters requiring a vote or in the transaction of business. A proposition will be carried by a simple majority vote of members in attendance. The President, or the Vice President in his/her absence, shall break all tie votes.


MEETINGS
Section 1 (Annual Reception)

The date, time, and location of the annual reception shall be set each year by the Social/Networking Committee and communicated to the Board. The purpose of the reception is to bring together Executive Degree alumni in a casual setting to interact with each other.

Section 2 (Board Meetings)

The Board shall meet three times a year, or as required.


OFFICERS
Board President
  • The term of office shall be for two years with no more than two consecutive terms being served by the same person.
  • He/she shall preside over all Board meetings.
  • He/she shall preside over all executive committee meetings.
  • Set meeting dates.
  • Assist the Executive Programs Office in the achievement of their goals.
  • Work with the Board and committees to achieve their objectives.
  • Serve as liaison to the Olin Alumni Association Executive Committee.
Board Vice President
  • The term of office shall be for two years with no more than two consecutive terms being served by the same person.
  • Shall serve as a member of the executive committee.
  • Preside over Board meetings in the absence of the President.
Committee Chairpersons
  • Shall serve a two-year term of office.
  • Serve as a member of the executive committee.
  • Provide reports and recommendations for action to the Board.
  • Help in recruiting new committee members when necessary.
(Immediate) Past Board President
  • Shall serve as a member of the Board.

STANDING COMMITTEES

The Board has the power to appoint committees for special projects and purposes. The chairperson of each committee shall be a Board member and serve on the executive committee. Committee membership shall be made up of current Board members and Executive Degree alumni. Vacancies shall be filled by the committee's respective chairperson(s).

Executive Committee

Shall meet annually to discuss Board membership and address other issues as raised by the Executive Programs Office.

Social/Networking Committee
  • Plans the annual reception.
  • Sponsors social/networking activities as needed.
  • Distributes an annual calendar of events to all Executive Degree alumni.
Recruitment Committee
  • Assists the Executive Programs Office with recruiting students to Olin's executive degree programs.
  • Recruits Executive Degree alumni to help at "open houses" and sponsors other admissions activities as requested by the Director of the Executive Degree Programs.
  • Helps identify and/or recruit alumni to serve as corporate representatives within large companies.
  • Helps identify small- to medium-sized firms or organizations who might sponsor Executive Degree students.
Education Committee
  • Ad hoc committee that only meets when there are curriculum issues to discuss.
  • Serves as an advisory group on curriculum issues, new program opportunities, custom programs, etc.
Annual Fund Committee
  • Advises the Executive Degree graduating class gift chairpersons on their class gift campaigns.
  • Works with the alumni & development staff on various fundraising projects related to Executive Degree alumni and the annual fund.
  • Chair(s) serve on the Olin Business School's annual Eliot membership committee.
