Taylor Bentley, PhD, Marketing 2015
On the Olin Experience:
Olin is a unique environment with students of amazing quality and professors who are at the top of their fields. Despite this level of quality, there’s an atmosphere of calmness, fellowship, and cooperation. Ironically, the competition that manifests is with one's self, rather than with one's colleagues. At Olin, the support from faculty and students reflects the attitude of the University. It’s a wonderful place to flourish academically.
On Collaboration with Faculty:
In 2008 when I was pursuing my MBA at Olin, I quickly became interested in the statistical techniques employed in a Marketing Research course and requested a number of independent study credits. While working with a faculty member on simple consulting projects, I learned about the PhD program and discovered that it was the best path for me. Since those independent studies four years ago, I've worked with Professor Tat Chan on countless research projects and I've met with him almost weekly, if not more, to discuss my work. His door has always been open and I’ve always been encouraged to stop by with questions and analyses. Professor Chan’s attentive quality as well as the effort he puts forth when working with his students is nothing short of extraordinary, and it is a level of effort that is shared throughout the Olin faculty.
