CAREERS

When it comes to job readiness, Olin wants you to be one of the best-prepared students in the marketplace. We call this market savvy – and it means acquiring the abilities that give you a competitive edge.

Advising
Our career counselors walk with you on the entire career journey – before, during and after graduation. They offer personalized career advice that matches your unique skills and interests with an educational plan tailored to your career aspirations – whether that dream job is in marketing, finance or supply chain management.

It’s not uncommon for students to connect with the career center even before they arrive on campus. Staff members talk through your goals and begin to align them with key alumni and company contacts to help you lay the groundwork for a summer internship that’s still a year down the road. Students seeking positions outside the United States meet with our international career adviser.

Career Education
Starting with your first semester, our courses and programs get you ready for your job search.

Weston Career Center's OlinProDev course
equips students with the career-management mindset and skills needed for a successful internship and job search. A collaboration of Olin's faculty, alumni, corporate recruiters and career center team, OlinProDev's intensive, interactive approach to career readiness builds the relationship, communication, resume and interviewing competencies that help students stand out in today's competitive career market.

Career Skills Inventory is a self-diagnosis of your current skills that relate directly to career management and the job search. The tool provides examples of how each proficiency level is demonstrated, whether Exceeding, Achieving or Developing. The CSI helps to determine your job-search readiness in 10 critical competency areas. Skill areas focused on within this tool are career management, self-assessment, emotional intelligence, market research, networking, informational interviews, résumés, cover letters, interviewing and evaluating offers.

Career and Job Search Resources
Take advantage of the wealth of resources offered by our Weston Career Center. Located in Simon Hall, the center includes a career library with information on a global array of industries and job functions, along with databases of alumni and corporate contacts. The Weston Career Center also has rooms for videotaping and practicing mock interviews. You direct your job search, and the  Weston Career Center staff always is available to coach, counsel and support you.

Interviews and Networking
Olin taps into its large network of contacts to schedule frequent networking and on-campus interview opportunities. Other firms post positions online. And some ask us to recommend candidates whose goals, skills and experience match their job descriptions. Some networking events take place in St. Louis; others take students on the road to meet with alumni and recruiters in locations including Chicago, New York and Silicon Valley.

Hundreds of companies from around the world recruit our MBAs for full-time or internship positions. Read our MBA Employment Statistics (PDF).

OlinProDev video
Over and over again recruiters say that they want to hire candidates who, from the first day, can get right in, assimilate into the culture, understand the company, understand the competition and get to work.

With this in mind, the WCC produced a series of videos that allow students to hear first-hand from recruiters about how professional career skills can put them on a trajectory of success.
