Graduating Students

Account Expiration | Network Files | Web Pages | Alumni Access | Alternative Internet Access

We hope the information services you received at Olin helped make your time here more productive and enjoyable. As you wrap up classes and finals in the weeks before commencement, we ask that you prepare for your online life after Olin. Unfortunately we are not able to provide the same suite of services to alumni that you enjoy as a student. Internet access, email, and web sites, are some of the items you may need to transition from Olin to a new source.

To help you with this process, we've provided a list of items to make sure you do not miss any items before accounts are deleted.

Things to Do:

  1. Copy your network files to your own computer or burn them to a CD, then remove them from the network.

  2. Setup Internet account with a new Internet Service provider (ISP). (More Info)

  3. Setup new e-mail account. (More Info)

  4. Visit the Alumni Association New Graduates Site.

  5. Go to the Online Alumni Community and setup your alumni account. You will not be able to register until one to two weeks after commencement.

Important!!! You will need your Alumni ID number to create an account. This is a seven digit number. It is NOT your student ID and it is NOT your Social Security number. If you do not know your Alumni ID, you can request that your Alumni ID be e-mailed to you.

Important!!! The form to resend your Alumni ID asks you for your school. If you received an undergraduate degree, select Business; if you received a graduate degree, select Graduate Business.

  6. When you know your new email address, update your @wustl Email Forwarding address:

    1. Go to the Online Alumni Community
    2. Click the Login link.
    3. Enter the username and password you created in Step 5 (above) and click Login. Do NOT use either your Olin or your WebSTAC usernames and passwords. They will NOT work.
    4. Select Our Online Community from the menu on the left, then Alumni Directory, and then Update Your Alumni Profile from the submenu that appears.
    5. Click the Edit button next to Personal Information
    6. Scroll down the page and enter the email address where you want mail to be forwarded in the box for Home Email. Do NOT enter your @olin.wustl.edu or @wustl.edu address!
    7. Click Save.
    8. You will receive a confirmation email when your update is processed.

  7. Decide how you want to access your Class Open List. Your class open list is converted to a private forum for your classmates to exchange messages. You can use email or the web to submit and read messages on this list.

If you decide you want to post messages to the list via the web, you can stay subscribed using your @wustl.edu address. As long as you keep your mail forwarding updated in the Alumni Directory, you will continue to receive messages posted to the list.

If you decide you want to post to the open list using email, you must change your subscribed email address on the list to whatever address you will use to send messages. The list will reject messages sent from any addresses not on the list. You can change your email address on your class open list to your new personal email address by doing the following:

    1. If you know your Open List password, skip to Step 4. Otherwise go to Step 2.
    2. Open the ListManager Password Request Page, enter your @wustl.edu address, and click Submit.
    3. You will receive a message containing a link where you can select a password for your Open List account. Open the link and create a new password.
    4. Go to the the Open List web page: http://lists.olin.wustl.edu/read/my_forums/
    5. You will be prompted to enter your email address (your @wustl.edu address) followed by your password.
    6. Click the My Account tab
    7. Enter your new email address and click Save Changes

    Notes:

    1. Accounts for Olin graduates (BSBA, Business Minor, MSBA, MBA, PMBA, EMBA) will be kept active for six months after graduation. If you have not accepted a job at that time, you may request an account extension. Accounts will not be deleted until December 1 (for May grads), March 1 for August grads, and July 1 for December grads. so there is no need to request an extension before then.

    2. Accounts for non-Olin graduates will be kept active for two months after graduation. Accounts will be deleted on August 1 (for May grads), November 1 (for August grads), and March 1 (for December grads).

    3. The University provides forwarding only for mail sent to your @wustl address. Mail sent to your @olin.wustl.edu will not be forwarded after your account is deleted.

    4. Alumni accounts do not have access to the proxy server and are therefore unable to access library databases and other University-restricted sites from off-campus locations. Licensing agreements with the publishers of these databases require that we restrict access to only active students.

    When does my account expire?

If you are an Olin graduate (BSBA, Business Minor, MSBA, MBA, PMBA, EMBA), your network, email, dial-up accounts and forwarding will be deleted six months after graduation (December 1 for May grads, March 1 for August grads, and July 1 for December grads). We do not provide accounts to alumni except under special circumstances.

If you are a non-Olin graduate your network, email (if you had an Olin mailbox), dial-up accounts and forwarding will be deleted two months after graduation (August 1 for May grads, November 1 for August grads, and March 1 for December grads).

    Will you forward my email?

The University will forward mail sent to your @wustl address to whatever mail address you provide online. As long as you keep this information up-to-date, you will always be able to receive messages sent to that address. Please note that this is a forwarding service, not a mailbox. You must provide your own mail service.

Mail sent to your local address (@olin.wustl.edu) will NOT be forwarded after your account is deleted. If you previously gave someone your @olin.wustl.edu address, make sure you let them know your @wustl address before your account is deleted.

    Will you extend my account?

All Olin graduates can continue to use their accounts for six months after graduation.

You may have your account and/or forwarding extended past that time:

If you meet these conditions, and you are within one month of your account deletion date, you can request that your account be extended by contacting the Help Desk (helpdesk@olin.wustl.edu) with details of your situation.

What happens to my files on the Network?

Your files will be deleted when your account is deleted. We request that you move your files from the network before you leave campus. The best way to archive your files is to copy them to your local system using FTP or by writing them to a CD using a lab machine equipped with a CD-RW drive. We will not archive files for you.

One month after you graduate, your file quota will be reduced to 25 MB (down from 50 MB).

What happens to my web pages?

Your web pages (if you have any) will be accessible through the account deletion date. If you want to save your pages so you can transfer them to your new account (wherever that may be), copy the files from M:\www\ (your www folder on your network drive) to a disk (floppy, Zip, or CD, depending on the size of your files) or download the files to your own computer using FTP.

How do I get access to job postings and other Olin alumni services?

You may continue to have access to job postings and other alumni services as they come online by applying for an Alumni Access account at http://www.olin.wustl.edu/alumni/apply.cfm.

Where can I get Internet access once I'm no longer a student?

NOTE: The Olin Business School neither endorses nor recommends the use of the specific companies or links listed below. They are included as a convenient starting point for you to evaluate various methods and providers of Internet services.

If you wish to continue to have access to the Internet after graduation, there are numerous Internet Service Providers (ISPs) that can provide access. You may also have access to email and the internet through your employer. We recommend that you arrange for personal access at home, however, as many companies can be quite strict on personal use of company resources.

ISPs range from small local providers in your own city to large national providers. Depending on your location, you may also be able to obtain high-speed Internet access using a cable modem from your cable company or DSL service from your local telephone company. If you travel frequently, you may want to consider a national provider which offers local access numbers, such as Earthlink (http://www.earthlink.net/). Monthly fees can range anywhere from $10 for 56k dial-up connection to $30 or more for cable or DSL.

National listings of ISPs are available at The List (http://thelist.internet.com/).

If you are on a budget, a number of companies have started to offer free Internet access. One example is United Online which offers service sunder the Juno, NetZero, and BlueLight brands. The jury is still out on whether offering ad-supported free Internet access is a viable business, but for the time being it is available.

    Where can I get email?

If all you want is an email account and you already have Internet access, there are numerous free web-based email services available. Some examples are:

Why can't I use the proxy server to access library databases?

The publishers of these databases require that we restrict access to these resources to active students only. Access by alumni is specifically prohibited.
