FAQ - Instant Messaging

Messenger (aka MSN Messenger or Windows Messenger) is the preferred instant messaging client at Olin. Using Messenger, you can logon to two different IM systems. The first is the public .Net Messenger service which uses Microsoft's .Net Passport. The second network it can use is the Exchange 2000 Instant Messaging Service on our own mail system. This system is separate from the public system and is restricted to Olin users only.

Important: The current version of Messenger for Windows XP is 4.7. Other versions of Windows use Messenger 4.6.

Several other Instant Messaging clients are installed on Olin machines, all of which can be found by going to Start/Programs/Internet Programs. The programs that are currently installed for your use are:

We have removed the full versions of these programs and replaced them with links to the web-based versions to minimize the need to reinstall and upgrade as new versions are released.
