Printer Setup for Laptops - Web Method (Windows XP and Vista)

Adding printers via the web will only work for the black and white printers. If you are trying to add the color printers, you need to use the manual method for Windows XP or Windows Vista.

Make sure you have a network connection. You will not be able to complete these steps unless you are connected to the campus network. Printing is available from both the wired and wireless networks.

Important! Updates Required for XP!

Microsoft has two hotfixes available that correct problems you may encounter printing from XP. Before you install any printers, be sure to install both of these hotfixes. You MUST have Service Pack 2 for Windows XP installed. Go to Start > Run, enter the command winver, and hit Enter to display the version of Windows you have installed. if you don't see Service Pack 2 listed, go to Microsoft Update and install it before installing these updates.

Off-Campus Printing: If you want to setup your printers and/or print from off-campus, you must first connect using the VPN Client. The VPN is NOT required for printing on campus.

Having Problems?

Insufficient Permissions/You Must Be an Administrator

Setting up local printers requires that you be an administrator on your machine. If you see this error message, then you are probably logged on using a standard user account instead of an administrator.
