If you are connected to a network outside of the Olin School or if you are using the wireless network, you must use the Cisco VPN Client if you want to any of the following:
- Print to Olin printers
- Map a drive to an Olin server (such as WUBSTAFF or WUBSTUDENT)
- Use Outlook 2002 or older to connect to our Exchange server
The VPN client is simple to install, available for multiple platforms (Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux), and easy to use.
Important Notes:
- If you do not use Outlook 2002 (or older) and do not need to map a network drive directly or print to Olin printers, you do not need the VPN Client.
- The VPN Client does not work when you are on the Olin network. You must be connecting to the Internet from a location outside of Olin.
- You must be an administrator on your computer to install the VPN Client software.
- Check with the IS staff at your employer before trying to install or use the VPN Client on an office or company-supplied computer.
- The VPN Client does not eliminate the need to use the proxy server to access off-campus restricted web sites.
- Cisco does not offer a free VPN client for PocketPC or MacOS 9 (and below).
