The modem bank has been modified to allow you to logon for Internet access using the same account you use for network and email. You no longer have to remember a separate password for modem access. You do have to enter your username in a different format, but this is a one time change.
IMPORTANT: You can use both the old and new systems until August 2, 2002. After that date, only the new system will accept logons. We suggest that you change your dial-up settings as soon as possible.
What You Need to Change
Username: Change from username to username@olin
Password: Change from original password you received, to the same password you use for network and email. Passwords are case-sensitive! Enter them exactly as you do for network access or email.
For example, if your username was JOHNDOE, you would change your remote access username from JOHNDOE to JOHNDOE@olin.

Background
When the modem bank was first setup, it was unable to authenticate users against our network. Instead, whenever an account was created a second account was created, using the same username and password, for the modem bank. When people changed their network passwords (as everyone should do on a frequent and regular basis!), the remote access account remained the same. So people had to remember both their current password and their original password. Since most people don't keep their account sheets for very long, many users would forget their original password and we would have to manually reset them.
Recent upgrades to the modem bank by Network Technology Services (NTS) now allow us to authenticate remote access requests against our existing user accounts. The "@olin" portion is necessary for the modem bank equipment to know whether to authenticate locally or against our system.
