Printing Resources

Multiple printers are available to students in the Simon Hall computer labs. Details on the printers installed in the Computer Lab and the Express Lab are listed in the table below.

Laptop Users: We suggest that you install all of the printers listed below, so that you have ready access to whichever printer is most convenient when you need to print. At a minimum you should configure P-LAB-SILVER, P-LAB-EXPRESS, P-LAB-YELLOW, and P-LAB-COLOR. Instructions are available for adding printers to your laptop.

Resume Printers:
There are also dedicated printers at stations 5-12 for use with your own resume paper. Students are not permitted to insert their own paper into other printer trays. Students who only need to print out their resume may request, tactfully and within reason, to temporarily use any of these stations for resume printing if all resume printing stations are in use.

All of the network printers in the lab have the same features, so unless a printer is not working, please do not change the default printer. The only reason you would want to print to a different printer is if you need to print a document on both sides of the paper or have a very large job to print. All printers have duplex capability (printing on both sides of paper). If you're printing a very large document, you may want to use this feature.

Printing Quota:
All student printing accounts are credited with $70.00 at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters to cover the costs of course-related color printing. This credit is the equivalent to printing of 1200 B&W and 40 color pages. An interactive link is provided below for students to check the current balance in their printing account. You will be prompted for your username and password. Please note that if you have not printed to a lab printer before, you will not have a balance yet. As soon as you print to a printer, you will be automatically added to the system, and you will then be able to view your balance.

Check your Printing Account Balance

If you use up your printing quota before the end of the semester, you can buy additional printing quota in the computer lab. Lab consultants can increase your quota to whatever amount you would like to purchase.
