Job Title: Web Developer Intern I / Web Developer Intern II Date: January 20, 2008 Job Code: Range: $10 - 16/hour FLSA: Position Reports To: Manager, Applications Development/Webmaster
Apply Online for this JobPosition Summary/Purpose:Student position to assist in updates and enhancements to Olin's web site. This position requires technical knowledge, interpersonal communication skills, creative abilities, problem solving, and a high level of dependability. This position requires ability to complete projects in a timely manner, prioritize tasks, and to recognize the need for and implement improvements during development. Two levels are detailed below, placement determined by skills.
Hours: Any number of hours per week; hours must be within the standard business day.
Principal Duties And Responsibilities:
Web Developer Intern
- Programming
- Knowledge of HTML, CSS, Javascript, XML, SQL queries, RSS
- Experience with web scripting language (ColdFusion, ASP, PHP, or similar) or other technical knowledge / programming skills to develop searchable/interactive web pages as assigned
- A solid understanding of procedural and object-oriented code
- Familiarity with framework-driven development environments a plus
- Experience with Macromedia Flash a plus
- Experience with web development tools (Dreamweaver, Homesite, etc.) a plus but not required
- Dynamic Web pages
- Work with Web Team to develop databases for use in dynamic web pages
- Write efficient query statements
- Design interactive features such as surveys, as requested, using applicable software applications, techniques, and tools.
- Knowledge of and/or experience designing sites that meet W3C's Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG); testing/optimizing sites for usability; and using web accessibility evaluation tools
- Familiarity with Stored Procedures a plus but not required
- Web content and design
- Ability to create page layouts within the site design, following established guidelines
- Transfer content to the web in an efficient manner
- Proof existing content to help identify out-of-date material
- Web graphics
- Create web graphics for cross-browser implementation
- Enhance graphics/images to improve load time
- Create attractive web pages from a variety of source documents (PDFs, Word, or other formats)
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications Required: Full-time student status is required. Formal computer background is helpful but not required. Must be competent in use of html, java (or comparable programming language), ASP.NET (or comparable skills), graphics development tools, Windows operating systems, and the Internet. Must be able and willing to learn new tools for web development in relatively short order. Must be able to work accurately, efficiently, independently.
Working Relationships: Reports to Manager, Applications Development/Webmaster. Has continuous interaction with other student web workers, department/program representatives, and operations staff.
Job Location/Working Conditions: Standard computer department working environment in Simon Hall.
