In 2005, Rovina Broomfield had to make a tough decision: accept a basketball scholarship at a Division I university or a slot in a top-20 undergraduate program.
“Good athletes in public high schools like mine go on to play Division I sports, and I wanted everyone to know I was a good player,” Broomfield said. “But I also was set on an excellent education.”
So, she went to her dad for advice. “‘There’s life after basketball,’ he reminded me. ‘Do what will prepare you for it.’”
