Program Overview

Our EMBA program in Shanghai closely matches our residential EMBA program in St. Louis, using the same faculty and curriculum. Students meet approximately once a month for four days for 17 months in Shanghai, then conclude their studies with a two-week residency in the Charles F. Knight Executive Education Center on our St. Louis campus. All students receive an AACSB accredited MBA Degree from Washington University in St. Louis, the same degree issued to our MBA and EMBA students attending classes on our home campus in St. Louis. This approach allows us to offer a US educational experience in China to managers working in China and Greater Asia without them having to travel frequently to the United States. Students also receive an Education Certificate from Fudan University, making them full-fledged alumni of one of China's top universities and giving them access to some of China's best researchers and teachers.

Classroom Bunderson The program places equal stress on both "hard-skill" and "soft-skill" training, using a balanced curriculum We believe that our graduates know both "what to do" and "how to get it done." Students receive training in the core disciplines that every manager needs to know in order to make good decisions and to train others to make good decision. But, the program's two one-week modules-one focusing on Strategy and Organizational Design & Change and another focusing on Leadership and Managing Power & Influence in Organizations, help our students to hone their leadership skills and to make their organizations more effective. We aim to produce managers with both impressive technical skills and a graceful and effective management style.

The curriculum also strongly emphasizes international management skills, with courses aimed specifically at the challenges faced by managers working across borders with colleagues, customers and suppliers from many different regions. The majority of our students work in multinational companies and have a wealth of experience to share about working in an international management setting in China.

"I chose the Washington University-Fudan University EMBA program because it's positioning-the best-trained and best-connected general managers in China-matched well with my personal objectives. I also wanted to be part of a program that is here to stay in China. Washington University is a top school in the US and Fudan University is a top school in China, and together they have what it takes to succeed. I know that in five years times I won't have to regret choosing the program because it has ceased to operate or hasn't achieved its full potential. They put a great deal of effort into managing their joint venture, carefully selecting great students and faculty members, and then creating learning and networking opportunities for their students and alumni."
