Married with one son, Professor Amaral lives in the San Francisco Bay Area. He enjoys hiking, biking, and backpacking.

Professor Amaral is a principal at Booz & Company http://www.booz.com, a global management consultancy. Prior to Booz & Company, Professor Amaral was founder and managing director of Emeraldwise, a consultancy that advised companies on supply chain, product engineering, and outsourcing strategy. Professor Amaral previously worked in operations and strategy roles at Hewlett-Packard, Siemens, Alcan, SeeCommerce (acquired by Teradata), and Adexa. While at Hewlett-Packard, he led the Design for Supply Chain practice area for Strategic Planning and Modeling. Professor Amaral also serves on the alumni advisory council for MIT's Engineering Systems Division. Professor Amaral has been associated with Olin since 2006, first as a guest lecturer.
