Dr. Hall has focused his research on the evaluation of quality in medicine and surgery, particularly as it pertains to individual providers and their contribution to the health care system. He has particular interest in the theory of risk adjustment.

Bruce Hall grew up outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Dr. Hall trained in general surgery at the Brigham and Womens Hospital (Harvard Medical School) from 1992 through 1997. He remained on staff at Harvard and Brigham as Assistant to the Surgeon in Chief. In 1999 he worked for McKinsey Consulting in their healthcare practice. In 2000 Dr. Hall joined the Department of Surgery at Washington University/Barnes-Jewish Hospital in Saint Louis, and joined the Olin Business School faculty as well. Dr. Hall's clinical expertise includes thyroid and parathyroid surgery, surgical oncology, and trauma care. Holding dual appointments as Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery and the Olin Business School, he teaches topics for the business school such as health care economics, insurance theory, health policy, and healthcare management.
