Doctoral Financial Aid

All enrolled students making satisfactory progress in the program are guaranteed financial aid for five years. This includes full tuition remission plus a stipend for living expenses distributed over 12 months. The minimum annual stipend is $20,000. First year students receive the stipend without any work requirement. From the second year onward, students are expected to work as research and/or teaching assistants - 400 hours per year for second to fourth year students, and 600 hours for fifth year students.

All applicants are automatically considered for Olin-provided financial aid, no separate application is required. Financial aid funding for incoming students is announced no later than April 15.

Conducting a successful job search frequently requires an outlay of funds that most doctoral students do not anticipate. In addition to the annual stipend, Olin provides funding for the presentation of papers at conferences, and for expenses associated with the completion of your thesis and job search. However, you may wish to seek additional resources such as external grants and fellowships, loans, savings, or family support to supplement the funding provided by the Olin School.

Washington University Fellowships

The Mr. and Mrs. Spencer T. Olin Fellowships for Women are four-year awards with generous stipends. Only women who possess bachelor's degrees from American institutions are eligible to apply. Finalists in the competition for Olin Fellowships are brought to the campus for interviews. Please note that the application deadline for Olin Fellowships is February 1 of each year. A special application is required. We encourage all women who plan to apply to Olin's doctoral program to request application materials for an Olin Fellowship.

The Chancellor's Graduate Fellowship Program was established in 1990 for the purpose of providing strong encouragement as well as generous financial support to outstanding, diverse students interested in careers as college or university professors. Doctoral candidates making satisfactory academic progress will receive full-tuition scholarships and stipends for up to five years. Applicants must apply both to the business program and to the Chancellor's Fellowship Program. The deadline for the Chancellor's Fellowship is January 25, 10 days after the Olin School application deadline.
