Buses, MetroLink, and Shuttle Service
There are several public bus (MetroBus) routes that lead to the campus. MetroBus also operates the Washington University shuttle system, so some of these routes overlap. MetroLink, the light rail system, has recently expanded into many of the surrounding neighborhoods and is an easy and economical way to travel around the parts of St. Louis it serves. MetroLink and MetroBus travel is FREE for Washington University students who carry a full-time schedule. Students must apply for a "U-Pass" in order to be eligible for this free service.

Licenses and City Stickers
Technically, it is illegal to use out-of-state licenses and plates if you are going to be in Missouri for more than 60 days. It is worthwhile checking http://www.dor.state.mo.us/ to review the regulations and to download a copy of the Missouri Driver Guide so you can study before taking the written exam. Generally, students do not experience much difficulty if they retain their current plates and licenses. Automobile liability insurance is required in Missouri. Check with your insurance carrier regarding your coverage. Insurance rates are lower if you live outside the city. City Stickers are necessary for some suburbs, and are enforced by some police departments--check your area.Washington University Parking Permit
Parking on campus is limited and the campus police strictly enforce the regulations that all vehicles must have a valid parking permit displayed in the windshield. Yellow stickers entitling a student to park in any "yellow" designated area are available for $380 for the academic year (July 1, 2006-June 30, 2007 - new prices will be announced by mid-June). Off-site permits, for parking in the West Campus parking lot in Clayton, are available at a reduced fee. Summer permits are available for $88. In order to purchase a parking permit, the student must complete a "Parking Permit Application". Applications are available at the Transportation Department located at Washington University's North Campus (700 Rosedale - telephone 314-935-5601) or online at https://wuparking.wustl.edu/permits/. It is recommended that you purchase a permit as soon as you arrive on campus since ticketing may occur even on your first day here. Applications will also be available during orientation. Information required on the application includes your Social Security Number, License Plate Number and make, model, year, and color of the car.Cab Service
