Circulation Policies

Borrowing Privileges
Washington University student, faculty, staff and courtesy borrowers who have current identification cards may borrow books. A current Washington University I.D. or courtesy card is required for all borrowing transactions.

Loan Periods

Undergraduate and Graduate Students 4 weeks
Faculty 90 days
W.U. staff 4 weeks
Courtesy Borrowers 3 weeks
Pop-Lit books(Located at Olin Library) 2 weeks

Renewals
Books that are not yet overdue, have not been requested by another borrower, or reached the renewal limit may be renewed using the View Your Library Record function of the catalog. Patrons may also renew by email.

Overdue Books and Fines
Daily fines for overdue books are charged as follows:

     General collection materials: 20 cents/day
     Recalled materials: 40 cents/day

A borrower who fails to return a book after the second overdue notice has been sent will be charged for replacement. In addition, the borrowing privileges will be suspended. Overdue fines are waived when a replacement charge for the lost book has been paid.

Information about student billing

Recalls
Only authorized borrowers may place recalls. A book may be recalled from another borrower after it has been on loan for a minimum of two weeks. Recalled item due dates will automatically change to precede the original due dates. Books needed for reserve are recalled immediately.
