Tuition:
If I choose the two-year format, then how much tuition do I have to pay?
You will pay per course on a semester basis. The 2008-09 cost is $1220 per credit hour.
Program Structure and Resources:
I want to know will you gurantee every student enrolled in the two-year format can participate in a cooperative? If not, what will the student do in that time?
Since it ultimately is up to the individual firms to decide whether to offer a given student a cooperative assignment, we cannot guarantee that each student will be able to do the cooperative. The reaction from companies to the idea of the cooperative has been very enthusiastic, so I think that most if not all of the students in the two-year format of the MACC will end up having this opportunity; but, again, it cannot be guaranteed.
If a student is not doing the cooperative, then he/she would have the opportunity to take additional academic work during that period of time, so the time would not be wasted.
I have currently graduated with a Bachelor of Accounting (Honour's) from York University in Canada. I am extremely enthusiastic to pursue the MACC program at the Olin School of business, but my primary concerns are:
1) Do individuals with a strong accounting background also participate in the MACC program or is the program primarily targeted for students with a general business background or a minimal accounting background?
2) How are the placement statistics for international students (graduating from Olin School of business) with the big 4 accounting firms?
We have students in this program who majored in accounting as undergraduates as well as students who studied only a little accounting course work in their earlier studies. Those who did major in accounting as undergraduates would find that they have more flexibility in choosing their graduate course work.
Our relationships with the public accounting industry always have been very strong. All of the major firms recruit at Olin, as do a number of regional firms in St. Louis and other major cities.
What are the specific things need for the 2 year format?
Since the background of students interested in the two-year program may be very different, we encourage you to contact us for a list of required courses and a sample two-year plan.
Since the program's inception in 1997, what has been the placement record of your graduates, especially with the principal accounting firms? Do you have a placement office, or is recruitment done through the business school?
Our students always are heavily recruited by the leading public accounting firms; but they find opportunities in other areas as well, including corporate accounting/finance, financial services, and etc. The Weston Career Center is Olin's in-house placement office, and is the focal point for job search activities for students in all of our degree programs.
How is the placement of MACC student in recent years? Especially for international students. How many people can get an offer before graduation? (Question asked by: Yinghua Li)
This is the first year that we have recruited students for our MACC program from outside of Washington University's own undergraduate student body, so the honest answer to your question is that we don't know yet how placement will be for students like yourself. We've had a few international students who were undergraduates here at Washington University and who did the MACC program. They have done very well in placement; and, in general, our accounting students typically are placed well before graduation.
One of the reasons we chose to expand our recruitment for the MACC program outside of Washington University is because of the very strong job market for accounting students at the present time, including internationally. The major public accounting firms are global organizations, and have need for well-trained people all over the world. We are confident, therefore, that international students coming here to do our MACC program will have good employment opportunities; but at the present time we do not have statistics to report for the reasons I mention above.
Financial Aid:
Is there any specific financial aid for international students? or any scholarships available? (Question asked by: jenny)
There is no scholarship support available to any students in this graduate program, either domestic or international. Aid is available in the form of graduate student loans. Please contact our graduate financial aid officer Kyle Cronan (email cronan@wustl.edu) for information.
Admission:
I have an undergraduate degree in Commerce from India (B.Com.). It is 12 + 3 as per the requirements in India. Do I qualify for the admission criteria for MACC program. (Question asked by: Punit Shah)
We require 16 years of formal education for non-Olin students to enroll in our MACC program. Therefore, you would need one additional year of formal education before being considered.
I'm an international student, wanting to apply to your MACC program. What's your minimum requirement for GMAT,and the average score of previous international applicants?
We do not have a specific minimum score that is required on the GMAT examination. The scores we accept ultimately will depend on the size and quality of our pool of applicants. This is the first year we have recruited outside of Washington University for this program, so there is no 'history' of GMAT scores that I can provide. We have offered a specialized master's program in accounting since 1997, however, so the basic curriculum itself is quite well-established, and has been very successful in preparing students for professional employment in this area. We'll be happy to receive your application.
Hi, what is your minimum requirement for toefl? And do you accept the International English Language Testing System (IELTS)? If it is acceptable, what is the minimum requirement for it?
We do not have a minimum TOEFL requirement, although admission to the MACC program is very competitive and our expectations about standardized test scores - TOEFL included - are very high. We do not accept the IELTS examination.
I have learned Accounting, Financial Management,Public Finance and International Finance. Could I apply for MACC program? Or I would have to take prerequisite courses? (Question asked by: cynthia liu)
You mention having taken 'Accounting,' but don't specify whether this is Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, or both. You need to have covered the content of Principles of Financial and Managerial Accounting both prior to entering our MACC program.
What is the mean GMAT and GPA for the MACC Program?
This is the first year that we have recruited students from outside of Washington University for the MACC program, so we do not yet have the kind of profile information you requested in any meaningful way. In the past, only current Washington University undergraduates were eligible to participate in this program. In the future, we will have both internal WU participants and external participants from other universities. Because the quality of Washington University undergraduates is exceptionally high, I anticipate that we will hold external candidates to a very high standard; but beyond that I can't provide specific information at this time.
I am a sophomore and I plan to study for my masters degree after graduation. Is the work experience a requirement for application to MACC program? (Question asked by: Irene)
Work experience is not a requirement for participation in this program, so you'd be welcome to apply to enroll immediately after completing your undergraduate studies.
Is it possible to do the MACC on a part time basis in the evenings?
While much of the course work for the MACC program is available both day and evening, some courses in our accounting curriculum are taught during daytime class hours only at the present time. How feasible it is for someone to do the program on a part-time basis therefore depends on two things: one, how much flexibility you have in your work schedule to do an occasional course during the daytime; two, the details of your academic background, which would determine specifically which courses you'd need to take to complete the MACC degree with us.
I am a senior student majoring in international business from China. I want to apply for your MACC program. Considering that I do not have an accounting background in my undergraduate study, is there any prerequisite course requirement for admission? (Question asked by: kristy liu)
Students wanting to apply to this program are required to have completed course work in Principles of Financial and Managerial Accounting. See our MACC website at http://www.olin.wustl.edu/macc/adm/eligibility.cfm for details.
Do you have a minimum requirement for GPA of BA degree?
We do not have a specific minimum GPA requirement, because students' academic background vary widely, as do the undergraduate institutions they have attended. A student with a 3.3 GPA from an especially challenging curriculum may be a stronger candidate than a student with a 3.6 GPA in a less demanding program, for example.
