Students must have completed an undergraduate degree from an accredited institution at the time of enrollment in the MS in Finance program, comparable to the four-year undergraduate bachelor's degree from Washington University. Washington University undergraduate students wishing to enroll in the Master of Science in Finance program on a 3/2 basis must have completed at least 90 total hours of course credit prior to beginning the Master of Science in Finance curriculum.

Applicants must have completed the following courses (or their equivalents) at an accredited institution, prior to entering the MS/Finance program:

Students must supply scores from the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or the Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) General Test. Test scores should not be more than five years old. For the GRE test, please indicate institution code 6923 and department code 4102. Starting January 1, 2006, the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) introduced new program-specific institution codes for prospective applicants to use for the GMAT. When taking the computer-based GMAT, please choose Washington University: Olin Business School, MS in Finance, from the drop-down box. If asked to provide a code, R4T-WG-53 is the code designated for Washington University's MS in Finance program.

Students should possess excellent writing, speaking and presentation abilities in English. The TOEFL is required if your native language is not English. However, it is not required if you have completed at least two years of study toward a degree (not including ESL classes) in the United States or the English-speaking provinces of Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, or New Zealand. For TOEFL registration materials, contact the Educational Testing Service (ETS) at www.toefl.org or by email at toefl@ets.org. The TOEFL institution code for Washington University is 6929. If asked for a Department code, it is 02.

MS in Finance Admissions Recommendations

While not required, we strongly encourage that students also take courses in Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, Computer Programming and Multivariate Calculus. In addition, a working knowledge of computer programming, such as Visual Basic, C++, Java, and of statistical/econometric packages, such as SAS, RATS, Stata, is not required, but is strongly recommended. Thus, we strongly encourage students with strong quantitative backgrounds, in particular those with MS or PhD degrees in math, engineering, etc., to apply.

Current MS in Finance students have undergraduate and, in many cases, graduate degrees in varied fields of study, including mathematics, economics, finance, engineering, and science.
