Frequently Asked Questions
The information on this site should provide you with answers to most of your questions regarding Olin's full-time Ph.D Program. If you do not find the resource you need, please submit your own question using the form at the end of this page. We'll do our best to answer your questions and update this site as needed.
Admission:
Is there a minimum GPA requirement?
No. The Review Committee considers the quantitative courses and performance from previous formal education. Because of our research focus, all applicants must be proficient in advanced levels of calculus (2 courses); 1 course each in linear and matrix algebra.
What is your TOEFL requirement?
All international applicants who do not possess a degree from an American university are required to submit a TOEFL score that is less than 2 years old.
Do you have a minimum GMAT score requirement?
Generally, students who enroll into the program possess GMAT scores close to 700. There is no stated minimum.
Will you accept the GRE?
While the GMAT is preferred, the GRE is accepted.
Financial Aid:
Do international applicants qualify for financial aid?
All applicants are considered equally for aid.
Program Structure and Resources:
If I have a masters degree, will that shorten the time-to-completion?
Generally not. The exception is if a student is admitted who possesses a masters in economics in which case the first year core sequence would be waived and the student admitted with second-year status.
How long does the program take to complete?
Five years of full-time study.
Can I enroll in the Olin Ph.D. program on a part-time basis?
The program is full-time and students do not work outside the university.
