Reuben C. Taylor
Reuben_Taylor The Taylor Experimental Laboratory was established in 1987 with the generous financial support of Reuben C. Taylor. Before starting his own business in the late 1950s, Reuben Taylor's initial careers were in investment management at Boatmen's National Bank (now part of Bank of America) and then sales management with National Lead Company in St. Louis. After reading about Ray Kroc's new restaurants, Taylor decided to seize an opportunity to become a franchisee of McDonalds, opening the first McDonalds in Connecticut and growing the franchise to 25 stores. Taylor retired in 1983 and moved to John's Island, Florida.

The Taylor family has had a long association with Washington University. George Oliver Carpenter, grandfather of Reuben Taylor's wife, served on the Board of Trustees of Washington University from 1893 to 1939. Reuben Taylor passed away in December 1997.
