Advising

The MBA and BSBA career advisors have the experience and knowledge to understand Olin students' career goals and add value to their job search. They come from a diverse range of professional backgrounds and leverage their experiences to provide relevant guidance toward career management.

Advisors help students assess interests and strengths, explore career goals, promote themselves effectively, craft a job search strategy, and identify employment opportunities. An advisor's goal is to help students achieve not only their immediate career goals, but also build the skills needed for a lifetime of career management. Although an advisor serves as a coach, students must play an active role in the process as well. Advisors consult with students through the process of developing and implementing their self-directed career management strategy. Topics may include review of self-assessment results, job search strategy, résumé and cover letter development and review, networking techniques and brainstorming, negotiating strategy, or mock interviewing discussions and debriefs.

Individualized One-on-One Advising
Advisors have specified appointment hours when they will meet one-on-one with students for 30 minutes (practice interview sessions are scheduled for one hour). These appointments are held in the Weston Career Center offices in Simon Hall and should be scheduled in advance by contacting the Weston Career Center Front desk at (314)935-5950.

Express Advising
15 minute advising consultations are available on a first-come, first-served basis. These consultations take place in Simon Hall. For more in-depth consultations, make an appointment for individual advising.

MBA advisors specialize in functional career paths. BSBA advisors are generalists and work with students interested in all functional areas.
